Retail & E-Commerce

The storefront is the easy part. What sits behind it decides whether it works.

E-commerce projects are usually judged on the storefront and decided by everything behind it. The site that looks correct but sells stock that is not there, or takes orders that fulfilment cannot see, is a harder problem than the one it appeared to be.

Our work in retail and e-commerce concentrates on that layer: platform delivery and migration for small and medium businesses, the supply chain and logistics systems that track what is actually available, and the integration between the storefront and the operational and financial systems that have to agree with it.

A recurring constraint is that the business has to keep trading throughout. That favours incremental delivery and embedded squads over long build phases and handover at the end, because the cost of a wrong assumption is measured in orders rather than in rework.

Where we focus

Areas of work

E-commerce platform delivery

Platform selection, build and migration for small and medium businesses, including the parts customers never see — inventory accuracy, fulfilment integration and order handling under load.

Supply chain and logistics

Systems that track stock, shipments and supplier relationships, including integration with partners whose own systems were not designed to cooperate with yours.

Operations and finance integration

Connecting the storefront to inventory, fulfilment and financial systems so that trading does not require manual reconciliation at the end of every day.

FAQ

Common questions

We are mid-transition and cannot afford downtime. Can you work with that?

That is the common case rather than the exception. Continuity during transition is a large part of this work, and it is one of the reasons we favour embedded squads over arm's-length delivery — problems surface faster when the team is close to the operation.

Do you build platforms from scratch or use existing ones?

Usually existing platforms, extended and integrated. Building a storefront from scratch is rarely justified; the work that earns its cost is the integration with inventory, fulfilment and finance behind it.

Do you work with businesses below enterprise scale?

Yes. A large part of our e-commerce work is with small and medium businesses, and squad size is matched to the work rather than to a minimum engagement value.
