Teams & Talent

The hard part is not finding developers. It is forming a team that works the way yours does.

Every organisation that has tried to scale a technical team knows the failure modes. The contractor who never quite integrates. The offshore arrangement that works until the first genuine disagreement, then stalls in a timezone gap. The permanent hire who takes four months to find and six to become productive.

We have been forming teams for Australian organisations for eight years, and the model we keep returning to is a small hybrid squad: an onshore delivery lead who sits with your people and is accountable in your hours, with build capacity offshore on deliberately overlapping time. Small enough to coordinate without process overhead, structured enough to survive someone going on leave.

We also recruit locally, for the times when what you need is not delivery capacity but permanent capability you intend to keep.

Offerings

How the work breaks down

01

Agile squad recruitment

  • Role shaping against the actual delivery need
  • Technical assessment and screening
  • Squad composition and sequencing
  • Trial period with defined checkpoints

We assemble around the work rather than filling a headcount request, because the wrong team shape costs more than a delayed start.

02

Hybrid onshore/offshore formation

  • Onshore delivery lead working with your team
  • Offshore build capacity with overlapping hours
  • Shared tooling, standards and definition of done
  • Single accountable point of contact

The model exists to give you Australian-hours accountability and continuity without paying entirely Australian-market rates for every seat on the team.

03

Embedded team integration

  • Working within your ceremonies and tooling
  • Adoption of your engineering standards
  • Shared backlog and prioritisation
  • Direct access between your team and ours

Squads that operate as a separate vendor create coordination overhead. We integrate into how you already work, even when that means adapting our practice to yours.

04

Local technical recruitment

  • Australian permanent and contract placement
  • Technical screening by people who build
  • Market and salary guidance
  • Onboarding support

When you are building permanent capability rather than buying delivery, we recruit locally and screen technically rather than on keyword matching.

Our approach

How an engagement runs

  1. 1

    Understand the delivery need

What has to be built, by when, against what constraints — and what your existing team can absorb alongside their current commitments.

  2. 2

    Shape the squad

Roles, seniority mix and the onshore/offshore split proposed against that need, with the cost implications of each option made explicit.

  3. 3

    Screen and assemble

Technical assessment run by people who build software, not by keyword matching against a job description.

  4. 4

    Integrate and calibrate

The squad joins your ceremonies and standards, with defined checkpoints in the first weeks to confirm the shape is right while it is still cheap to change.

  5. 5

    Transfer and step back

Capability transfer planned from the start, so the squad can reduce or exit without the work stalling.

A typical engagement

Squad engagements are structured so you can judge the fit early, with defined checkpoints in the first weeks rather than a commitment that only gets tested at the end of a quarter.

What you get

  • Proposed squad shape with costed options
  • Named onshore delivery lead
  • Agreed working practice, tooling and definition of done
  • Checkpoint reviews at weeks 4 and 12
  • Capability transfer plan agreed at the start, not the end

FAQ

Common questions

What is the hybrid squad model?

An onshore delivery lead works directly with your team in Australian hours, with build capacity offshore on overlapping hours. You get local accountability and continuity without paying Australian-market rates for every seat. It is set out in full on our How We Work page.

How small can a squad be?

Typically five to seven people, which is small enough to stay coordinated without formal process overhead and large enough to carry real delivery. We size to the work rather than to a minimum contract value.

Do the offshore team members work Australian hours?

They work overlapping hours with deliberate daily crossover, rather than a full timezone shift. The onshore lead covers the rest of the Australian day.

Can we hire the team permanently?

For local recruitment placements, yes — that is the intent. For squad engagements, we would discuss it case by case rather than treating it as a breach.

What happens if the squad is not working out?

The week-four checkpoint exists precisely for that. Raising it early is cheaper for both sides than discovering it at the end of a quarter, and we would rather adjust the shape than defend it.
